Sophrology Cycles

There are three cycles of Sophrology and within each Cycle there are four levels (12 levels in total).

1st cycle - The Reductive Cycle

Level One

The first level is insprised from yoga by practising the Dynamic Relaxation 1 exercises we become more aware of the body in which we are living.

The main focuses:

body, present time, concentration, activating the cell structure of the skin

The student is encouraged to live in the present, without judgement and to experience the world as if seeing it 'for the first time'.

Level Two

The second level is inspired from Buddhism and by practising the Dynamic Relaxation 2 exercises we become aware of the workings of our mind.

The main focuses:

Mind, future time, contemplation, the 5 senses, activating the cell structure of the muscles.

The students work on taking a positive view of the future, focusing on goals, projects, future events, etc.

Awareness is directed towards the interaction of the mind and body, the effect of the senses and the awareness of the world through the senses.

Level Three

The third level is based on Zen. The Dynamic Relaxation 3 exercises build on the concepts from levels one and two - now with eyes partly open we become more aware of the world around us.

Having reinforced their structures both mental and physical the student is then ready to work on investigating the positive aspects of their past.

The main focuses:

The mind/body relationship, past time, medation, activating the cell structure of the bones

At this level the student starts meditation both sitting and walking. Awareness is more fully focused on the outside world, however, the student moves back and forward between their inner world and the outer world, viewing both ‘as if for the first time’.

Level Four

Professor Caycedo based the Fourth level on the experience and research gathered from the first 3 levels.

This level uses all the concepts already learned while moving from inner contemplation to outer contemplation.

The main focuses:

Personal values, The dimensions of time and space, the activation of the cel structure of the vital organs.

The emphasis is on the Values of Existence: Liberty, Responsibility, Dignity

The student, as well as becoming aware of their own Values of Existence also discovers the three dimensions of time.

2nd cycle - The Radical Cycle

Having reinforced the mental and physical structures during the first cycle, the student now goes on to discover their place in the universe.

These levels are based on the concepts of the first four, however, the student has now journeyed along the spiral of life and will now experience all four levels from a different view point. During this level sound (the voice) is used to activate the body, mind and spirit.

The main focuses:

Awareness of the vibrations in different parts of the body,

3rd cycle - The Existential Cycle

During this cycle the students discover and practise a new form of existence. They learn to live in full consciousness and to understand and be fully aware of the Existential Values of Existence: Liberty, Individuality. The student not only continues to train to be fully present in each moment in time, but also to be aware of all the dimensions of space and time and to be fully in tune with the themselves, the world around them and the universe.

There are also four levels in this Cycle based on the first and second cycles, however, again the student has moved along the spiral of life and experiences the exercises from a new and different perspective.
